About Denis Dunstone

Denis Dunstone is a Cambridge Law graduate and a former Royal Navy officer who enjoyed a distinguished career as an international business executive.

After retiring, he turned his talents to writing and painting, beginning with well-researched books on railway history. He later expanded into etymology with the engaging unacademic essay Why is an Apple a Pomme? which explores the origins of everyday words in various European languages.

In recent years, he has refined the craft of rapid topographical field sketching of his royal Navy officer’s year, through a popular series of watercolour books featuring rural churches in the UK and Normandy.
